   ALFRED DIXON – IN MEMORY
 
Oftentimes persons who truly make a difference in our community go unnoticed or unsung. The Board of Directors for the Greater Mt. Carmel Development Corporation would like to recognize and salute our UNSUNG HERO. This special leader truly deserves the accolade of Distinction.
                                  
 
 
His every breath was the wind beneath the wings of many. Fondly remembered as “Coach Dixon”, he used his athletic prowess, musical gifts and theatrical stage presence to guide & mentor the young and seasoned.
His purposed filled journey led him to serve God and humanity, always offering his gifts and talents to uplift and inspire a new generation.
 
Mr. Dixon graduated from A. L. Mebane High School in 1966 and matriculated to Florida A and M University, where he achieved recognition as a running back for the famed FAMU Rattler football team from 1966-1971.  While there, he served as Co-Captain of the 1968-69 and 1969-70 teams. He continued his education at the University of Montevallo – Montevallo, Alabama where he received a Master of Education Degree, Major – Instructional Leadership. Additional certification in the area of Administration Supervision was obtained at the University of South Florida.
 
 Has distinguished career as an educator covered over 30 years of dedicated service, including Tampa Bay Vocational-Technical High School – Tampa, N. B. Young Middle School – Tampa, Williams Middle School – Tampa as Assistant Principal overseeing Empowering Teens Extravaganza – Site Coordinator, Teens on Target – Site Coordinator, First to Score – Developer and Coordinator , PTA Liaison, Task Force to Improve Benchmarks and FCAT Scores, and Jennings Middle School – Seffner, Florida Assistant Principal of Student Affairs. He retired from the Hillsborough County School District in 2004
 
Mr. Dixon joined Greater Mt. Carmel A.M.E.C. in the 1970’s. There he sowed seeds of service in numerous ministries including as a Steward, Trustee, church School Superintendent &  Instructor, Bible Study  Instructor, Vacation Bible School Instructor, Sons of Allen , Male Choir,  Tape Ministry & Photo Ministry Coordinator, Lay Organization- Vice President, Tampa District Lay Historian & Mass Choir. His divine leadership & vision led to the formation of “Bridges on Troubled Waters, a Non-Profit Ministry addressing Disaster Preparedness.

The Christian legacy of Alfred Dixon is firmly and eternally engraved on the community he faithfully served.
